Our 2012 Round is over!

Pokémon Big Bang Round Two is officially over!

Totals:
  • 3 months of creating fanwork
  • 7 authors
  • 2 artists
  • 2 beta-readers
  • 6 total fics (2 completed fics)
  • 20 completed artworks
  • 103,892 words

Roughly half as many writers as last year produced roughly half as many words, and roughly half as many artists as last year produced 15% more artwork. We had a great diversity of submitted works, too—almost every pokémon verse was represented, as well as almost every gen of the games. All in all, you did a fantastic job! Give yourselves a round of applause!!

If you rose to the Big Bang challenge, feel free to use this banner anywhere you see fit! (Note: if your piece (fic or art) is not yet completed, please don't use this until you're done.)

(Do you all want a banner that reads "I participated in the big bang?" We can make one of those, too, if people are interested!)

You can see all of our 2012 Big Bang entries by clicking this link!
Don't forget to leave comments for your fellow participants!

We'd also like to remind people that if you've posted your fic to FFN, we have an FFN C2 here! Please drop this mod or that mod a PM so that we can add your fic to the C2.

If you've posted your fic to AO3, we have a collection here! You should be able to add your fic to the collection on your own, so please do!

Talkback

By comparison to last year, this year was a lot more rough. We got off to a good start with a more streamlined version of the big bang that improved on some areas (notably with the addition of 2-writer teams) and fixed some last year's mistakes. However, we mods had difficulty keeping the place updated on the days listed on the calendar, and a ton of people dropped this round.

So talk to us, and tell us what happened! Did people get really discouraged because we mods were so tardy? Was it just too close to the last big bang, and so people were too exhausted to do so much work again? Is the summer a bad time for everyone? Would it be better if we moved it back so that big bang 2013 takes place during the school year (where—for example—the last month is December and posting is in January 2014, allowing people to make the most of their winter break)? Was there something you needed or wanted from the big bang that didn't work out for you, and that's why you dropped? And to everyone—including those chosen few of you who managed to post your big bang entries—how could we have made it better for you, or helped you to have a more enjoyable and less stressful big bang experience? For example, would it be easier for you if we had mini-deadlines throughout the writing period, thereby encouraging people to write more evenly throughout the three months?

In addition, how can we help people form teams? We had so many artists and betas left out in the cold this year. Perhaps part of that was due to the fact that all of our writers dropped like flies :(, but is there something else we can do to improve this?

Please let us know your thoughts! We'd like for next year's round to be a big success!

Also, to help us prepare for next year: if your big bang entry was based upon a suggestion from the prompt post, could you please let us know here? We would really appreciate it! (Also, a reminder that the prompt post is open year-round, and feel free to drop suggestions into it any time you'd like! ♥)

You can also use this post's comments to chat with your fellow competitors about the big bang experience, as well as just generally hang out and PARTY. After three months of hard work, it's time to celebrate!!

Do you folks want a friending meme again this year? Let us know in the comments! And if you're feeling like your life has a lack of excitement and purpose after the end of the big bang, never fear—there's always the Pokémon holiday fanwork exchange, coming soon to a Pokémon prompts community near you!

But seriously, I have so much respect for you people who have managed to pull this off two years in a row! I haven't read through all the big bang entries, but I am super excited about basically all of them! HUGS AND HIGH FIVES FOR EVERYONE

Congrats everyone!

I didn't enter (as an artist) because I wasn't expecting to be able to use my tablet over the summer. In the end I did manage to get it to work on my laptop but by then it was too late to sign up.

yay for everyone who finished!!! and thank you mods!!!

I would love a friending meme and um actually is there, like, a tutorial for posting to FFN/AO3 somewhere? It would be cool to be able to share my team's work where more people might see it but I have not used those sites before, and maybe I am not the only one?

In terms of what would have helped me, earlier mini-due-dates might have. The extensions absolutely are the reason I finished.

In terms of forming teams... is there a reason it's anonymous? Naively it seems like being able to see someone's writing/art/&c. would help make it easier to decide if you wanted to work with them or not, but I am probably missing something.

AO3 requires an invite to get in. You can join the waitlist here, but unfortunately the wait is quite long (last I heard it's like november/december if you submit a request now). The other option is to get an invite from a current member. Alas, I have used mine and then another, and they're not letting current members request more either ): you can poke around and maybe something will fall out?

I made an account a while ago; I don't like the username but apparently I can change it so that is not an issue. I in fact have one invite sitting in the account if someone else needs it!

I have never tried to post anything to it, though, I just used the account to comment on last year's big bang. I will... figure it out? :)
